I wanted to share some pictures from the first week of school! You can see each student holding the book from their favorite subjects, and pictures from two different science classes. In one, we timed the period of pendulums, and in the other, the students are making observations and inferences about earthworms.

Our normal homework routine started on Friday night. Students will have homework every night, and this will usually consist of math, reading, and spelling. Please help your child get into the routine of doing their homework in the same spot each night, crossing out each assignment in their notebook as they complete it, and then putting all the papers back into their bookbag before they go to bed.

  1. Good Afternoon,

Will the students have homework Monday through Friday or do they also have to do homework on weekends? When will test be given for overview of their homework? Thank you

  2. They will have homework on the weekends, although it will look slightly different. There won't be spelling homework, and they will have an article to read and questions to answer instead of doing their reading logs. We have a spelling test every week, and tests in math, science, and social studies about every 3-5 weeks, depending on how long it takes us to complete a unit. I let students know about tests a week in advance so they have plenty of time to study. I'll be going over all this in more detail on Back to School night Thursday, but let me know if you have any other questions before then!

  3. Hi need some clarification on the reading log. Is it a reading log? Is it a worksheet that they have to fill out? One section a day? Thanks

  4. I call it a reading log, but it's not just a list of the books they read. It's the worksheet I gave out to students on Monday, and they should fill out one section of it each night. On Friday when they turn it in, there should be four sections filled out.
